Today is the start of Disability Pride Month. This month is a time to celebrate people with disabilities and everything they bring to our communities. It is also a time to remember that people with disabilities are still fighting for equal rights.
At the Center for Self Advocacy, we know these rights did not happen by chance. People with disabilities worked hard, spoke up, and fought for the right to live, work, and be included in their communities.
We are concerned about recent actions that could weaken the Olmstead decision. This decision helps protect the right of people with disabilities to live in their communities instead of institutions. We believe everyone should have the choice to live where they want and be part of their community.
This Disability Pride Month, we stand with people with disabilities and the disability community. We will keep working for inclusion, accessibility, and equal rights for everyone.
Happy Disability Pride Month!
