Community Presence and Engagement:
- Update Facebook page to match where we are and what we want to do
- Establish a web presence via a landing page on the CSA website (subject to CSA board approval) Add videos related to our statements/surveys focusing on importance of staffing shortage, etc.
- Develop and implement a process that assures all coalition members are in support of proposed public statements to be made by the coalition (in accordance with our Public Communication Principles)
-
Coalition Membership:
- Develop and implement a member outreach plan to expand membership and enhance regional representation
- Reach out to past members and participants in the 2019 retreat
- Reach out to additional organizations, including other people within the disability community and their allies
- Recruit people who have completed board training
- Recruit self-advocates with no history of participation and/or from rural/underrepresented areas
-
Promotion of Best Practice and Systems Change:
- Design, complete and share results of digital equity survey
- Schedule a meeting with the DDAWNY agency execs to remind them of the coalition and to share our key issues and concerns. Propose to open a continuing dialogue about the status of people receiving services being on their boards of directors and other best practices for meaningful involvement.
- Focus on broad community issues that affect all people. For example, understanding that a lack of access to resources such as transportation, social supports, and sufficient income impact everyone as a community, which includes people with disabilities.
- Illustrate through compelling stories and available data how the staffing crisis affects the lives of people with developmental disabilities including issues with transportation, work, housing, social isolation, health, and other areas. Foster community understanding rather than focusing on specific legislative advocacy.
- Bring to light the need for NYS Human Service Agencies to capture and share data about the quality outcomes of their system.
